6th annual RAASL research conference on humanities and social sciences
View(s):The Royal Asiatic Society of Sri Lanka (RASSL) is holding its 6th Annual Research Conference on Humanities and Social Sciences on Thursday March 28th, Friday 29th and Saturday 30th at the Mahaweli Centre, 96 Ananda Coomaraswamy Mawatha (Nelum Pokuna Mawatha), Colombo 7.
More than 240 abstracts will be presented at this year’s Research Conference on the following subject areas: Sociology, East-West Encounter, Media, Education, Gender, Governance, Economics, History of Science and Technology, Archaeology, History, Buddhist Studies/Philosophy, Aesthetic Studies, Library Science and Language Studies.
On the 28th a Special Symposium on the “Genetic Heritage of Sri Lanka” will be held from 8.30 -11 a.m, beginning with an address by Dr. Jagath Balasuriya, Minister of Cultural Heritage. The speakers are: Dr. Nimal Perera, Deputy Director General, Dept. of Archaeology, K. Chandimal, Lecturer, University of Kelaniya and Dr. Ruwan Illeperuma, Senior Scientist, GeneTech.
On the 29th, the Special Symposium will be on the “Promotion of Buddhist Cultural Tourism in Sri Lanka” beginning with an address by the Minister of Culture and Arts T.B. Ekanayake. The speakers are: Ambassador for the Royal Embassy of Thailand Poldej Worachat, Dr. D.S. Jayaweera, Director General, Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority, Prof. Gamini Adikari, Director General, Central Cultural Fund, Dr. Senerat Dissanayake, Director General, Department of Archaeology and Dr. Hema Goonatilake. The last day’s Special Symposium will be on “Street Artists: Their Styles and Clientele” and the speakers will be Sampath Karunaratne, Chandana Pradeep Kumara and Sanjaya Seneviratne.
