Mega summit of 1962 Royalists in Toronto
View(s):Past students of Royal College, Colombo, Sri Lanka, who are presently 62 years of age formed themselves into the Association of Old Royalists’ 1962 Group and have been meeting regularly since March 1978. According to the Constitution those who joined Form I at Royal College (Colombo) in 1962 and others who joined this batch of students in later years [viz. Form II in 1963, Form III in 1964, Form IV in 1965, Form V in 1966, Lower VI in 1967 and Former Upper VI in 1968] are Royal Life Members – with voting rights – of the Association. Those who were students at Royal Primary School – in 1st Year Classes in 1956, 2nd Year in 1957, 3rd Year in 1958, 4th Year in 1959, 5th Year in 1960 and 6th Year in 1961 – but failed to get admission to Royal College are also treated as Royal Life Members. This batch of Old Royalists whose motto is “Friends-Forever” are celebrating their 62nd birthday on or between July 1, 2012 and June 30, 2013. Members have been enjoying quarterly luncheon meets in Colombo and one annual Night-Out at a Resort Hotel out of Colombo and within Sri Lanka. This year, 2013, members who are residents in Canada and the USA have planned a week-long Mega Summit in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, commencing with a welcome dinner on Thursday July 4 where two-minutes silence would be observed as a mark of respect to remember 27 classmates who are no more.
The seven days of fun & frolic with families to follow would include a soft ball inter-house “bare-foot” cricket tournament at Simeon Park with “old” suit-case in which they carried their books to school as the wickets and shoes as the bowling crease to remember the way they played during their “old” school days.

There will also be the 25th Annual Royal-Thomian cricket encounter in Canada on Monday July 1, 2013 and the family re-union of Old Royalists and Old Thomians on Saturday June 29.
