Reed House climbs to victory at Royal sports-meet
View(s):Reed House with a commanding overall performance won the championship of the Royal College Inter-House Sports-meet, which was held at the college grounds in Reid Avenue last week.
The victorious Reeds accumulated 520 points while being closely chased by Marsh House, which finished with an overall tally of 501 points. Boake House, which produced the most number of overall champions in different age categories, finished third with 482 points. Hartley (441) and Harward (433) houses finished fourth and fifth respectively after giving each other a stern test.
Thilina Karunaratne, of Boake who won the best athlete in the Under-21 age category, was also adjudged the overall champion athlete of the event. Champions Reed House produced the only age category champion in Niraj Ganewatta, who clinched the Under-19 championship. Boake House snatched the championships of the Under-17, 16 and 15 age groups as Gautam Sellasamy, Kashyapa Jayawardene and Sabith Feroze secured wins in their respective age groups. Waruna Lakshan of Hartley House won the Under-14 championship. K. Amarasinghe of Boake and I.A. Rajapaksha of Marsh won the Under-13 and 12 age group championships respectively.
The event’s Chief Guest was 1983 Royal athletics captain, N.S.S. Cooray. Principal Upali Gunasekara took the initiative to lead the schoolboys and his staff in conducting a successful sports-meet. Senior games master, M.T.A. Rauf, and the energetic PTIs of Royal College worked tirelessly to make this event a great success.
