Thimira bails Thurstan out

The 50th Isipathana-Thurstan cricket encounter petered into a draw with the Colombo seven lads fighting to stay alive at the SSC grounds, yesterday.
In reply to Isipathana’s first innings total of 256, Thurstan continuing from their overnight score of 75 for 3 were troubled by the Isipathana pace-spin combination of Malin Dias, Kelum Bastiansz and Chameera Dissanayake who shared nine wickets between them to limit Thurstan to a low 138 in just 43.2 overs.
Forced to follow on with a deficit of 118 runs, Thurstan were given a solid start by openers – Minhaj Jaleel (28) and Tharindu Silva (29) who put on 61 runs for the first wicket. Then a third wicket partnership between Kavindu Kulasekera (18) and Charana Nanayakkara (29 not out) wiped off the deficit and were 118 for 3 at tea.
After the break Thimira Jayasinghe played the sheet anchor role to be unbeaten on 62 with 10 fours as wickets fell around him at regular intervals.
At close of play Thurstan score card read a healthier 220 for 7 in 78 overs.
