The Veyangoda flyover now being built on a request made by Economic Development Minister Basil Rajapaksa to meet the rush hour-traffic congestion in the Veyangoda town is due to opened in September, according to an official statement.
Minister Rajapaksa’s ministry said (in the statement) that 80 per cent of the work on the flyover is now complete.
It is one of the biggest projects launched to develop infrastructure in the Gampaha District under the Mahinda Chinthana Vision, and costs Rs 2 billion as a Highways Ministry project.
The proposed flyover will reduce an 8-hour road traffic delay caused by the movement of 96 trains a day. The Spanish Government has provided the necessary financial assistance, the ministry said.
The total length of the flyover from the entry point is 600 metres. It is being built over the railway crossing on the Nittambuwa-Katunayake highway and the Dee Ella which flows parallel to it.
