It is one of the most developed countries among the former Soviet republics. Its long cultural history and traditional excellence in the field of culture and academics is now achieving new heights. Armenian universities have opened their doors for foreign students for education in the field of medicine, nursing and engineering. With famous universities like Yerevan State Medical College (estd. 1920), Yerevan State Engineering University (estd. 1933) and Erebuni State Medical College (estd. 1960), American University of Armenia (estd. 1989). The country is now home to students from Syria, Iran, Iraq, Mongolia, Jordan, China, USA, Lebanon, Georgia, Russia, India.
The people of Armenia are hospitable and welcoming. Living expenses in Armenian is probably the lowest in comparison to other European countries. Armenian Universities have now opened its doors for Sri Lankan students. Since 2010, Sri Lankan students are pursuing medical studies in Yerevan State Medical University (YSMU) of Armenia. YSMU is a leading medical university of the world and is on the list of Medical Directory of WHO. The Sri Lankan students found the education standards in Armenia high and tuition fee very nominal.
