Essential Soft Skills by Courtesy of IPM
View(s):A one-day free workshop on essential soft skills was conducted by the Institute of Personnel Management (IPM), Sri Lanka, on March 22 2013, at the HR House, Colombo 05. The event was organised by the Consultancy, Research and Policy Development Committee of the IPM, and was yet another CSR project by the institute as an effort to build a more effective employee cadre for the country.
The main objective of this workshop was to aid IPM’s own students to grasp better the technical course content related to human resource management (HRM), and to afford students an advantage in pursuing their higher education.
The soft skills workshop targeted IPM’s own students following courses such as Programme in Career Guidance and Development (PCGD), Foundation Course in Human Resource Management (FCHRM), Certificate Course in Human Resource Management (CCHRM), and Professional Qualification in Human Resource Management (PQHRM). Hence the workshop was structured to comprehensively cover the requirements of the students following these courses, entailing: academic writing, business writing, effective answer approaches at examinations, presentation skills, and public relations skills. The resource person at this event was PQHRM qualified Ranmali Wickramasinghe who is part of the IPM faculty.
IPM’s courses are specifically designed to provide the necessary knowledge and skills for good human resource management in a competitive global business environment. PCGD and FCHRM provide students with basic understanding of HRM and management in general, whereas CCHRM and PQHRM provide comprehensive technical knowledge essential in an organisation’s management strategies. All courses at the IPM are underpinned by a panel of well qualified lecturers – who have proved their worth in corporate entities, an extensively equipped library, and state-of-the-art study centre.
The Institute of Personnel Management Sri Lanka (IPM) was established in 1959, and is a professional body incorporated by an Act of Parliament No. 24 of 1976. IPM is affiliated to the Asia Pacific Federation of Human Resource Management and World Federation of People Management Associations.
