The ‘Story of Sinhala Pop’ ready to unleash tonight
View(s):Rajive Sebastian is now all set to present his latest show ‘The Unforgettable Story of Sinhala Pop’ on Sunday, March 31 at the Nelum Pokuna Performing Arts Theatre. ‘The Unforgettable Story of Sinhala Pop’ is more an unfolding story on bandstand than a concert.
The deep voice which regenerated the revolution of the 70’s, Rajiv Sebastian is all out to expose ‘The Unforgettable Story of Sinhala Pop’ in the form of a spectacular concert.
Billed to perform along with Rajiv are – the Prince of Sinhala Pop – Annesley Malawana, the nightingale of the 70’s – Indrani Perera, the dynamic – Anil Bhareti, the glamorous – Shayami Fonseka, the one and only “Kandy Lamissi” – Mariazelle Goonetilleke, Tamil Pop Chakarawarthy – A. E. Manoharan (exclusively flown from India), Teenage heart throb of the 80’s – Priya Sooriyasena, the back to back Presidential Award winner – T.M. Jayaratne, the King of Kaffirinya from Moratuwa – Nihal Nelson, the playback songstress of the silver screen – Latha Walpola, the harmonious – Neela Wickremasinghe, Presidential Award winner – Damayanthi Jayasuriya and the versatile – Jackson Anthony, from the silver and mini screen.
The show will comprise 32 songs of that era. He also plans to release a DVD on the day of the show. ‘Sinhala pop was a crowd pulling factor decades ago and the passion of the people have still not diminished for that kind of wholesome entertainment.
I am always very picky about the topics and people I choose and the music I deliver. For me it’s the concert output that matters and my input is secondary. There are many shows presented by me in which I never sang. But this show being on Sinhala pop, I will play a key role’ said Rajiv.
