The Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) will take over bunkering facilities at ports and resume refuelling ships from next week after a four year lapse. Petroleum Industries Minister Anura Priyadharshana Yapa said the resumption of the service, first at the Colombo port and later at Trincomalee, was to cut down on the losses the Corporation was making.

The minister said that at present three companies, including the Lanka Indian Oil Company handled refuelling at these ports and their operations would end with the CPC taking over the bunkering facilities.

CPC Managing Director L.E. Susantha Silva said refuelling by the three private companies accounted for only about 35,000 tons a month, whereas the corporation had earlier accounted for 60,000 tons a month.

The Ceylon Petroleum Storage Terminals Limited (CPSTL), a subsidiary company established to facilitate the petroleum storage and distribution activities in Sri Lanka, would handle the bunkering facility, he said.
