A candidate, knowing very well that he would not be nominated for the post of a top sports body, had traveled all the way to Ampara to meet the Big Man in order to plead with him that his name be considered for this post. But alas! He could not even get past the security at the event Deyata Kirula and he had to return broken-hearted without even getting a glimpse of the man he wanted to meet. What a disappointment!
Chameleons
It is well-known now who will head the Citadel! Two individuals, however, who had been supporting a certain individual, had turned around abruptly, after knowing that this candidate would not be in the picture, to support the man who will now head the sport. Talk in the Citadel is that these two individuals are like chameleons who will turn colour when the situation pleases them!
Blackout
Cricket fans were in for a big disappointment when the lights went out at Sooriyawewa when a key match was in progress involving a foreign team. Those in the know say that there were four generators and one of them had been taken to Colombo to a certain Big Shot’s house and when the lights went out without the fourth generator, electricians could not get the lights on at the venue and so the blackout occurred.
In a fix
The AGM of a leading indoor sport is scheduled to be held today (Sunday). Seeking nomination to the post of Vice President is an Additional Commissioner. The rules however state that such an individual cannot contest for a post of this nature. This individual, however, is adamant that he should contest which has put the other officials in a fix.
Fresh elections?
The AGM of a popular sport worldwide took place recently in Colombo and those elected to hold posts in four top positions have not played the game at the international or ‘A’ division club level as that is one of the criterions that officials should have to hold posts in this sport. It looks as if the Big Man in Sports is aware of this and will ask them to clear this point. If they cannot do this, in all probability, the election will be ruled null and void and fresh elections will be held.
A roaring business
The vice president of a sports body, who had been elected to hold office, is a well-known businessman trading in textiles. They say that he is not very educated and cannot even converse with people properly. This businessman, insiders say, has provided poor quality blazers, jerseys, playing shorts, stockings etc. to sportsmen in the past and they fear that he may be up to more tricks in order to hoodwink more sportsmen in this field.
