Bata- the Sunday Times Most Popular Schoolboy Cricketer 2013

St. Peter’s College first XI skipper Dushan Hemantha, who edged out Richmond College spinner A.K. Tyron last week, doubled up his pace to secure the second spot as the 11th week of the 34th Bata-the Sunday Times Most Popular Schoolboy Cricketer of the Year 2013 came to an end.
However, the table leader, Minhaj Jaleel of Thurstan College, remains firmly ahead of the main competition. Hemantha ran amok to stay in front of Tyron by 485 votes as his tally reached 4113. Hemantha was boosted with a count of 496 votes from last week while Tyron remains at the third spot with 3628 votes after a weakened collection of 33 votes from last week.
Meanwhile Jaleel received 1272 votes during the concluded week as his tally further swelled up to 17261 votes. He remains 13148 votes above his closest rival Hemantha. But the remaining line-up stays the same without much ado. Trinitian Dinuka Wickramanayake remains at fourth place followed by Madawa Nimesh of Royal College Panadura, Sachin Bulathsinhala of St. Anthony’s Katugastota, Jason Buultjens of St. Peter’s, Roshan Anuruddha of Gurukula Kelaniya, Damindu Ashan of Royal Panadura, Kusal Mendis of Prince of Wales’ and Royal Colombo skipper Devin Pathmanathan.
Sanju Sharuk of Vidyaloka Galle who received 272 votes last week continues to lead the Emerging Schools category. He has a tally of 1750 votes as the duo from Sri Sumangala Panadura Lahiru Vimukthi and Chamika Amarasekera remain at second and third places respectively. Sharuk leads Vimukthi by 848 votes but the latter may receive stiff competition from Chamika who trails him by 221 votes.
The International Schools category still remains the realm of Wallid Jiffry of Leighton Park. Jiffry, who received 378 votes last week, has a tally of 7163, a lead of 1566 from Shashika Rathnathilake of Lyceum Nugegoda. Shashika looks to be getting stronger week after week. He received 923 votes last week and if the trend continues he could be a real threat to Jiffry in the coming weeks.
