Jaffna Central beats St. John’s with fiery bowling
View(s):Jaffna Central College maintained their consistency in limited over cricket by beating St. John’s by thirty-four runs, in their annual ODI played at the St. John’s College grounds, recently.
With the Big Match between these schools having ended in a tame draw, with St. John’s having an edge over Jaffna Central, this tournament drew lot of spectator interest.
Jaffna Central, batting firs,t scored a fair 208 in 47.3 overs. They were aided by useful contributions from P. Darvin, P. Niroj and Alan Dilan. The most successful Johnian bowler was pacie R. Pirishankar who took 3 wickets for 17 runs.
In reply, St. John’s were 174 at the fall of the seventh wicket with 6.4 overs to spare. With S. Sowmitharan and V. Hariharan bowling with vengeance, three quick wickets fell for no score, to turn the tide in Jaffna Central’s favor. The Johnian innings folded for 174 runs, giving Jaffna Central a hard-fought win. The more successful Central bowler was V. Hariharan, who claimed four wickets for 27 runs. Hariharan richly deserved the Man of the Match award he was presented.
