The big match fever has almost come to an end with most of the long standing traditional encounters being completed with most matches ending in a draws. Lumbini MV and Bandaranayake MMV Gampaha too are looking forward to join the big match parade.
With this intention the two schools have made arrangements to start off with a limited over big match which is scheduled to be played on April 2 at the Colts ground in Colombo.

Bandaranayake MMV team

The principal of Lumbini MV A.A.D.M.C. Wijetunge said there were so many requests from several schools to play a big match but he decided to go with Bandaranayake MMV Gampaha after having fruitful discussions with the school principal D.M.L.P. Dissanayake. Wijetunge further stated that from next they are looking forward to play the normal two day big match.

Lumbini MV who are playing in the Division One category led by Shehan Shashika has played 13 matches winning one outright against Nalanda and have undergone three outright defeats with the rest being drawn while Bandaranayake MMV playing in the Division Two led by Mihiran Imbulana have also played 13 matches securing four outright wins and undergoing three defeats.
Lumbini MV has also been successful in the Under 19 limited over tournament and at the time of writing they have qualified to the quarter finals having defeated Nalanda in the pre quarter final two days ago while in contrast their opponents cannot boast a record of this nature.

Lumbini MV Team

So the scale is in favour of Lumbini MV even though they have been able to achieve only one outright win. They posses three good allrounders in Chamara Nishantha (605 runs and 42 wickets), skipper Shashika (538 and 43 wickets) and Tharushan Iddamalgoda (520 and 40 wickets)

They will be expecting the trio to deliver the goods along with Jammika Dharana, Mohamed Akram, Janith Dias and Vimukthi Ellegoda in both the batting and bowling department.

On the other hand Bandaranayake MMV batting department will be spearheaded by Sahan Arachchige who is their top scorer having made over 800 runs inclusive of two tons and seven half tons. He will be the player that Lumbini MV will have take note of.The others who are expected to make their contributions and support Sahan are skipper Mihiran who is their next best scorer with over 750 runs, Pasindu Madusanka who has scored a double ton this season, Rathsara Withana and Wageesha Wanniarachchi.

Their bowling will revolve around spinner Rathsara who is their leading bowler with over 60 wickets to his credit. He will be looking forward for support from Dinidu, Bathiya Hettiarachchi, Shavana Anjula and skipper Mihiran and Esala Adikari to curtail their opponents.

However Lumbini MV though coming into the game as favourites cannot afford to under estimate Bandaranayake MMV as they have the ammunition to turn the apple cart.
