French cinema at AF Colombo
View(s):The Alliance Francaise de Colombo weekly film screening will showcase ‘La Veuve de Saint-Pierre’ (The Widow of Saint-Pierre) by Patrice Leconte on April 9 and 10 at 3/6.30pm.
The calmness of Saint-Pierre, a small French island off Canada, is flustered by a wild murder The culprit, Neel Augustus, is very quickly arrested and sentenced to death. But Saint-Pierre, has neither a guillotine nor a hangman. The French government promises to put it right. In the meantime Augustus is place under surveillance of the captain. The wife of this one is keenly interested in the fate of Neel, in whom, she sees goodness and simplicity. She decides to fight for him for a rehabilitation.
The film will follow ‘Ça commence aujourd’hui’ (It All Starts Today) a French/ Canadian cinematic experience. The film is about a Daniel Lefebvre, a Director of a nursery school at Hernaing, near Valenciennes who xercises his profession with passion in a region that was once rich and now ravaged by unemployment.
One evening, Ms. Henry comes very late to pick up daughter Laetitia. Wanting to kiss her, she bend and collapses on the ground drunk. Over- come by shame, she runs away leaving her daughter and the baby. Daniel decides to take the children home despite the regulation prohibits such initiatives. This incident leads him to radicalize his action and his positions.
This French drama directed by Bert. Tavernier is screened at 3/6.30pm on April 16 and 17. The film screening will be at the auditorium of Alliance Française de Colombo, 11, Barnes Place, Colombo 7.
