Shashika in a positive campaign
View(s):Bata- the Sunday Times Most Popular Schoolboy Cricketer 2013
As Thurstan College’s Minhaj Jaleel remains indomitable in the 34th Bata-the Sunday Times Most Popular Schoolboy Cricketer of the Year 2013 competition, even after 12 weeks, there are some other contenders who have made clear progress in their respective categories.
Among those who steadied their campaign for the middle slots is St. Peter’s College first XI skipper Dushan Hemantha. He snatched second place a fortnight ago and by this time his progress is clear.
Jaleel is on top up with 18026 votes with an advantage of 13587 over Hemantha, who has accumulated 4439 votes, after receiving 326 entries for this week. Jaleel’s campaign has been steady as always and he managed to gather 765 votes for the concluded week.
It seems as if Sanju Sharuk of Vidyaloka Galle will have to face tougher times ahead in the Emerging Schools category. Sharuk’s slot is vulnerable after Lahiru Vimukthi of Sri Sumangala Panadura had indicated his intentions. Vimukthi trails Sharuk by 695 votes as of today but with six more weeks remaining, changes may occur in this category. The International Schools category is still being led by Wallid Jiffry of Leighton Park for the 12th consecutive week but his place too is at risk due to Shashika Rathnathilake of Lyceum Nugegoda. Shashika is making swift progress in the competition and is 1051 votes behind Jiffry, who just received seven votes in his favour. Shashika’s campaign looks to be catching up positively. The category holds a debutant in Chelaka Mallawarachchi of Lyceum Wattale, who made his entry at fourth place next to Davin Serasinghe of Gateway.
