Jaffna men and women take TT crowns

Jaffna men and women walked away with the “Plums” in the Inter District Men and Women Table Tennis Championship organized by the Ministry of Sports – Northern Province and played in the courts of the Vavuniya Urban Council.

The Jaffna men’s team, drawn mainly from Jaffna Central College, beat Mannar in the finals by 3 matches to 1 in the finals. In the earlier rounds Jaffna beat Vavuniya by the identical score of 3 matches to 1. Mannar beat Kilinochchi by 3 matches to nil.
The outstanding player for Jaffna was Centralite M. Agashan who won all his matches. He was rightly awarded the best player of the province award.
In the women’s finals, Jaffna team consisting of girls from the Union College, Hindu Ladies College and Vembadi Girls’ High School had a close call beating Vavuniya by 3 matches to 2. A. Dansika won the best player of the province award.
