Bata- the Sunday Times Most Popular Schoolboy Cricketer of the Year 2013
View(s):The battle for leadership in the International Schools category has intensified as Shasika Rathnathilake of Lyceum International Nugegoda is closing in on the incumbent leader Walid Jiffry of Leighton Park as the 34th Bata-the Sunday Times Most Popular Schoolboy Cricketer of the Year 2013 competition reaches its 16th week.
However Thurstan College’s Minhaj Jaleel continues to dominate the main competition as he reached the magical milestone of 20,000. Jaleel who continues to receive a bulk of votes received 693 this week as his tally moved to 20034 with the competition approaching its final month.
St. Peter’s skipper Dushan Hemantha seems to have sealed his place next to Jaleel with a tally of 4753 votes as Richmond’s A.K. Tyron, whose campaign has slowed down, follows at third place with 3691 votes.
Sanju Sharuk of Vidyaloka Vidyalaya Galle enjoys being the leader of the Emerging Schools category, Lahiru Vimukthi of Sri Sumangala Panadura shows potential of causing a surprise. Vimukthi remains 671 votes behind Sharuk but could threaten the leader with only five more weeks to go before the curtain comes down. Behind Vimukthi is his team mate Chamika Amarasekera followed by Prasanna Sujith of Uhana MV and Bhanuka Manelanga of St. Mary’s Kegalle.
In the International Schools category Jiffry’s place is at stake as Rathnathilake closes in to snatch the top slot. Jiffry received 1106 votes this week to tally 9138 as Rathnathilake has paced up to total 8019 votes. He received 790 votes last week and needs 1119 votes more to overtake Jiffry, who has been the sole leader since the inception.
