President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s May Day concessions to sections of electricity consumers will cost the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) eight billion rupees a month, Chairman W.P. Ganegala said yesterday.

He said the Treasury had informed him that it would reimburse the loss. “The CEB will now have to look at other cost-cutting measures such as reducing the cost of production and curbing corruption,” he said.

The CEB chief also said he was expecting further concessions from the Government, particularly on the price of fuel supplied to the CEB.
