Science, Maths and ICT Exhibition of BTCC

The science and Maths units in collaboration with Information Communication Technology (ICT) unit of Bandarawela Tamil Central College (BTCC) organised an exhibition at the college premises recently.

The teachers of these three units respectively encouraged the students of this college to unlock their creative potentials. It is believed that the initiative has assisted in the students’ long term creative development.

The creation of exhibits of science unit was classified in terms of their aspects. New inventions, Science Models, Experimental setups, Industrial Models, Display of all the science equipment with demonstrations etc were some them. Most of the exhibits were made of using locally available materials and waste materials. The proficient science unit teachers J. Rudhra Joseph (co ordinator), R.S.P. Caruppiah, D.M. Gunadasa, S. Sivakala, P. Yogeswary, V. Sharmila and K.A.C. Chithrangani took strenuous effort and facilitated the students in various ways to bring out their potential talents.

The creation of exhibits of Maths unit, in terms of aspects, was classified as Mathematical Models and Setups related to Geometrical theorems. The expert Maths unit teachers D.G.N. Joseph (Co-ordinator), A. Arulraj and K. Sivakumary took arduous effort and encouraged the students to bring out their creativities.

The computer unit had also classified its section under the following category in terms of subject oriented. e- Library, The correct posture to be adopted in using computer, Uses of ICT, Generation of computer, Hard ware, MS office package, Mouse mischief, Networking, Graphic designing, Visual basics, Virtual class, Web designing, e-mail and Skype, Back panel of computer, ICT quiz competition and Computer software presentation. The teacher in charge of computer unit Miss. C.F.D.B. Christina with the assistance of Faris Mohideen, Project co ordinator of rural area IT development project and GITC, ICTA had organized multifarious initiatives this nature which encouraged student to express their creativities.

Over 500 exhibitors of the respective units representing grade 06 to 13 participated in this exhibition. The significant feature of this exhibition was that the students offered their demonstration in both Tamil and English. More than 15 schools of both Sinhala and Tamil medium students benefited in this exhibition. It was also free to all schools to reach out and offered tangible help to these school students in the Bandarawela zone.

This exhibition was rendezvous for many students for those seeking subject oriented activities under one roof where there are lack of facilities to gain knowledge on science, Maths and ITC subjects.

The college principal V. Karunakaran while addressing at the inaugural ceremony said that the college’s policy of promoting education as well as curricular, extra curricular activities was evident at this exhibition seeing the talents of the pupils of this college.
He also added that the pupils participated in preparing exhibits for the exhibition while attending their classes ensuring that they did not neglect their studies. Being a leading Tamil medium school in Bandarawela, our school has produced a number of talented personalities in its history.

The retired and former principal of this college V.T. Jabadurai said in a conversation with him, “It is important for children to go beyond their day to day school activity and engage in activities that help develop their creative skills.

The exceptional students who have shown achievements in their activities and the successful participants in the QUIZ competition were awarded with gifts and certificates depending on their capabilities.
