SLIM’s ‘Marketing Rocks Challenge’ ends on high note
View(s):The Sri Lanka Institute of Marketing (SLIM) held the finals of “Marketing Rocks Challenge 2013” programme at Buddhist Cultural Centre recently.
Museas College emerged winners while St. Lawrance’s Convent and Stafford International School were 1st and 2nd Runners-up respectively. The best presenter award was won by Ms. Mandarika Jayasiri of Leeds International School.
Nineteen teams participated in the programme, representing St. Josephs College, Alethia International, Mari Stella College, Staford International, Leeds International, St. Lawrance Convent, Devi Balika Vidyalaya, Musaeus College, Royal Institute, Methodist College 1, Methodist College 2, Royal College, Belvorir College, Royal Institute, OKI International, Yoshida Shokanji, Wycherley International, St. Nicholas International and
Trinity College.
The ‘Marketing Rocks Challenge’ offered the students an opportunity to experience a real-life situation of solving and presenting a ‘Corporate’ solution to a given issue. The programme was extremely competitive right from the beginning, and teams with analytical and creative skills had the ‘edge’ over others. The eminent panel of judges comprised of Mr. Nalin Munasighe – Key resource person, Mr. G.S. Sylvester and Ms. Gowrie Indraratne.
“The ‘Marketing Challenge’ which is the gaming component of the Marketing Rocks Programme was a marketing case study given to school A/L students. Students were expected to handle it as any other professional marketing case study, where they were expected to carry out a market/ industry analysis. At the gaming session the students had to make a presentation to justify their case,” Ms. Kumari Hapugalle Perera – CEO/ Managing Director & Coordinating Principal Alethea International School explained.
Emphasizing the importance of the event, SLIM Immediate President Tilan Wijeyesekera said, the ‘Marketing Rocks Challenge’ offered students an opportunity to experience a real-life situation of solving and presenting a ‘Corporate’ solution to a given issue. “This will definitely prepare the younger generation to face the challenges of the corporate world with greater confidence, dedication and integrity.”
Alethea International School partnered the National Body of Marketing in this endeavour. Etisalat Marketing Manager and current SLIM President Mr. Gamika De Silva was present at the final event, where he delivered a speech, stressing on what marketing is and how marketing is as a career.
Prior to the finals, the Briefing Session of the Marketing Challenge was held on February 8, while the Gaming Session where A/L students from 19 teams worked on a marketing case study was held on February 22.
