The most coveted awards in Engineering and Engineering Entrepreneurship in the country have been announced! Nominations / applications are being entertained up to 28th June, 2013 for the award categories; Eminence in Engineering Award, Excellence in Engineering Awards,Excellence in Engineering Awards for Organizations, Engineering Entrepreneur Award, Award for Excellence in Engineering Journalism, Young Chartered Engineer Awards, Chartered Engineer Awards, Social Responsibilities and Environment Award, Engineering Heritage Award and Outstanding Engineering Education Award.

The annual Engineering Awards scheme was established by the Institution of Engineers, Sri Lanka (IESL) to encourage and celebrate the excellence in the science and the practice of engineering by rewarding the best and the finest of its members, individuals, organizations and enterprises in Sri Lanka for their outstanding accomplishments and achievements related to engineering.
Nominations/applications have to be submitted on the prescribed format to be downloaded from the IESL website, www.iesl.lk or obtained from the IESL Secretariat T/phone 2698426 Ext. 232.

This article highlights two of the award categories for which leading engineering related enterprises in Sri Lanka and media personnel in the print and electronic media who have contributed to the enhancement of awareness among the public on the role and impact of engineers in the improvement of the standard of living of the people of the country, are expected to be on the fray to clinch coveted awards.

EXCELLENCE IN ENGINEERING AWARDS FOR ORGANIZATIONS

Rewarding Outstanding Accomplishments and Achievements by Engineering Enterprises

Sri Lanka’s top engineering enterprises are to be honoured for outstanding demonstration of professionalism and pursuit of excellence in their scope of activities, thereby contributing to the overall improvement of standard of living of the people
Organizations under the categories; Manufacturing (Large), Manufacturing (Medium), Infrastructure – Construction, Infrastructure – Services and Engineering Services will vie to clinch top awards in their respective categories and to bask in the prestige and limelight associated with winners of those coveted awards.

Through this award the Institution of Engineers, Sri Lanka (IESL), the premier body for the engineering profession in the country, hopes to encourages and celebrates excellence in the science and practice of engineering by rewarding the best and the finest of engineering organizations and enterprises in Sri Lanka for their outstanding accomplishments and achievements related to engineering.

AWARD FOR EXCELLENCE IN ENGINEERING JOURNALISM

Rewarding Outstanding Contribution by Media Personnel
Journalists and producers national newspapers, radio and television stations are to be honoured for outstanding articles / programmes that enhance awareness on role and impact of engineers in the improvement of standard of living of the people.

Printed and electronic news media, are the most effective medium for creation of such awareness and molding of public opinion on engineering issues whether it is supply of utilities for their day to day sustenance or larger infrastructures needs in the transport and telecommunication sector, etc.

Through this award the Institution of Engineers, Sri Lanka (IESL), the premier body for the engineering profession in the country, hopes to encourage continued balanced coverage of engineering issues which enhance awarenes on the subject and overall awareness on the role engineers play for the upkeep and improvement of living standards of the society.

Articles / programmes that appeared between 1st January 2012 and 31st December, 2012 are eligible for the award. Details of application procedure will be announced soon in national newspapers.
