Hatton National Bank ‘A’ trounced Samapth Bank by five goals to one to book their place in the MHA ‘A’ division knock out final at the Astro Turf yesterday. At half time both teams were on level with a goal each.
In the 18th minute of the game, HNB ‘A’ posted the first goal of the game when right inside N. Lewke converted a penalty corner. However, four minutes later, Sampath Bank equalized through right inside Pubudu Banduwardena off a field goal.
After the change of ends, centre forward Upul Fernando put HSBC ‘A’ in front off a pass from right inside Damith Bandara in the 32nd minute.
In the 40th minute, Upul Fernando added his second goal to make it 3-1 and eight minutes later, it was Fernando again to make the tally 4-1 off a penalty corner.
The final goal of the game was off the stick of N. Lewke in the 53rd minute to give HSBC ‘A’ a 5-1 win and a place in the final.
The game was refereed by Dharshana Wijesinghe and M. Naushad, while the third umpire was W.M.C. Dissanayake.
Commercial Bank ‘A’ win semi final over
Commercial Bank ‘A’ defeated Singer Sri Lanka by four goals to nil in their semi final MHA ‘A’ division hockey knock out fixture at the Astro Turf yesterday. At the break, Commercial Bank were in front with three goals to nil.
The first goal of the game was off the stick of Milan Bandaranayake in the 9th minute and in the 19th, right inside Ashen Alles, the right inside made it 2-0 off a field goal. Three inutes later, Anju Hewage made no mistake with a penalty corner to make the tally 3-0.
After the turn around, Commercial Bank made the final score 4-0 when Videsh Dassanayake converted a penalty in the 35th minute.
The game was controlled by W.M.C. Dissanayake and D. Abeyratne. The third umpire was T. Satish Kumar. (BM)
