‘Noodle Pudding’ wins Perera & Sons 1st quarter cook-off
View(s):Lahiru Jayarathne’s innovative “Noodle Pudding” recently won the first leg of the quarterly Creative Cooks cook-off organised by Sri Lankan bakery fixture Perera and Sons. The event was held at the company’s Bars Cafe unit on May 6.
Topped with custard, orange slices and full grapes, and filled with noodles amongst other ingredients, Mr. Jayarathne’s highly creative concoction won him a Rs. 10,000 cash prize and an in-store voucher for Rs. 5,000, whilst also earning him with the honour of being the first dish to be awarded in this year-long competition. According to organisers, the competition will also feature a grand finale, at the end of the year, wherein the grand prize will be two air tickets to Thailand, for a two night stay on full board basis.
As such, one entry per month will also be shortlisted to participate in this Creative Cooks cook-off grand finale. Receiving over a 100 entries for the first quarter’s competition alone, the Creative Cooks contest has the sole criterion that entries utilise ingredients showcased within the 2013 Perera and Sons calendar, to prepare a unique dish consisting of a base, a filling and a garnish. According to a statement by organisers, dishes are judged based on the “uniqueness of the dish, taste, appearance, originality, personal appearance and hygiene”.
