An exciting morning at the Young Readers Workshop
To the editor
On April 25, 2013, at 9 a.m., 60 Funday Times readers of ages between 10 – 13 gathered at the Sri Lanka Press Institute for the Young Readers Workshop conducted by Dr. Gerard van der Weijden, a Senior Consultant from the World Association of Newspapers.
As we registered, we each got a folder with essentials needed for the workshop. When it started, Dr. Gerard introduced himself and also introduced a famous cartoonist who is also a designer, singer and ukulele enthusiast, Isuri Dayaratne. She had brought along some of some of her awesome cartoons, created by herself, to share with us.
To make the workshop interesting, we were divided into 10 groups. We started by doing some activities on newspapers. Dr. Gerard was asking us questions on Sri Lanka and he told us some facts about Holland. Afterwards, we had a little break with refreshments.
Thereafter, we had a press conference with Isuri, where we had to ask three questions each from every group. We were enjoying so much that we lost track of the time and it was soon time to leave the workshop. The workshop ended by all of us taking a group photo.
We would like to thank the editor and staff of Funday Times for giving us an opportunity to meet great personalities.
