AATSL Receives ISO award on the eve of its Silver Jubilee
View(s):The Association of Accounting Technicians of Sri Lanka (AATSL) was awarded ISO 9001-2008 certification for quality management systems recently. ISO (International Organization for Standardization) is the world’s largest developer of voluntary International Standards. International Standards, developed through global consensus, give state of the art specifications for products, services and good practice, helping to make industry more efficient and effective. AATSL obtained the ISO certification through Moody International Ltd in Colombo – Sri Lankan Certification Company of ISO UK.
ISO Certification for AATSL comes at a time when AATSL is celebrating its 25th year of service to the nation, in building technician level careers for young school leavers, who had only few options to become an accountant. AATSL came into existence in December 1987 on the model of the AAT UK, with their collaboration and guidance. Since then it has been a continuous journey of success,
producing thousands of middle level accountants, with a highly recognized professional qualification, to meet the ever increasing demand for middle level accountants. The AATSL’s main intensionis to provide students with the resources, information leadership and training that enable them to provide valuable services following highest professional standardsto benefit the students, employers and public. There are only a few educational institutions which obtained ISO certification in Sri Lanka. With ISO standardization, AATSL would be able to serve the student population of the country who are interested in following a career path in accountancy, better and more effectively.
Ganaka Amarasinghe President of AATSL, commented “quality service and student-care have always been at the forefront of AATSL, and receiving ISO 9001 – 2008 certification is confirmation of that fact”. “The implementation of the ISO Quality Management System will help to further streamline AATSL activities and encourage conformity and continuous improvement for the benefit of our valued students and members”. Tishanga Kumarasinghe CEO of AATSL stressed that “AATSL has progressed well in the highly competitive environment during the past two decades and is expected to continue to grow in its strength as an established educational institution producing quality accounting professionals, with commitment to adopt Sri Lankan accounting procedures, accurate and efficient management systems on par with international standards.”
