The fastest I ever travelled

The fastest I ever travelled, was with famous car racer Ashan Silva. My parents were too scared to send me alone so my father joined me. It was a racing car. I was sitting on my father’s lap. There were iron bars at the back to protect the driver. The car is a Lancer Evo 4. The speed was 240 km/h. When he puts the brakes I go forward and when I come back my head knocks on my father’s nose.
There was heavy traffic on the road. I was scared a bit. After that I got used to it. It is a 3400 horse power engine.

That is very fast. I was excited. I was seven years old when I went with Ashan Silva. I hope to drive like him some day when I’m big. I was lucky to go for a drive with him. He is one of the most famous car racers in Sri Lanka as well as Malaysia. I’ll never forget that drive for life. I liked that drive and I like Ashan Silva a lot.

The country I like to visit

The country I like to visit is Spain. I’ve heard so many interesting things about it. It is the second largest country in Europe. Its main cities are Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia and Seville. The main language is Spanish but there are a few other languages like Euskaran and Castilian. The main religion is Roman CatholismBull-fighting is very popular.

Other popular sports are football, cycling etc. flamenco dancing is very popular in Spain. The country is famous for its beautiful beaches along the Mediterranean coast. The currency used in Spain is Euro.

Spanish cuisine consists of a great variety of dishes which stem from differences in geography, culture and climate. It is heavily influenced by seafood. Spain’s National Day is on October 12. I love to visit Spain.

Vesak

Vesak is celebrated annually in the month of May by Buddhists worldwide. This year the Vesak full moon poya day falls on May 24 which is a Friday.

The Vesak day is a culmination of three important events in the life of Prince Siddhartha, who was later known as ‘Lord Buddha’. These three main events are the Birth of Prince Siddhartha, the Enlightenment of Gautama Siddhartha and the Passing Away of Lord Buddha
We mainly celebrate Vesak in two ways. On Vesak full moon day Buddhists go to the temple to offer flowers and to light lamps and incense sticks in honour of Lord Buddha. On this day we also observe sil, listen to sermons and meditate peacefully.

The second day of Vesak is usually for other worldly celebrations such as lighting up of buckets and lanterns of various colours, shapes and sizes. People love to enjoy the delicious food offered at ‘dansals’, as it is a novel experience to most of them.

People especially the young crowd, like to go sightseeing the colourful pandals which depict the ‘Jathaka Tales’ of the various lives of Lord Buddha in previous births. People also love to watch the stunning processions that parade on the road.

I always look forward to Vesak as it is in my view, the most glamorous and religious festival in Sri Lanka.
