Prince of Wales and Medabedda triumph at U-20 handball tournament
Prince of Wales’ College ‘A’ and Medabedda Maha Vidyalaya clinched the boys’ and girls’ championships respectively at the third annual Under-20 Inter-Schools Handball Championship, which concluded at the Prince of Wales’ College ground in Moratuwa last Saturday.
Last year’s runners-up, the Cambrians, dashed all hopes of D.S. Senanayake College ‘A’ team defending their title, after inflicting a thrilling 6-4 defeat in the Cup final. Medabedda MV was placed third in the segment.
The ‘B’ side of D.S. Senanayake thrashed Nalanda ‘C’ by 8-0 to win the Bowl title while Ananda went on to secure third place. St. Anthony’s College Galewela thumped Royal College Panadura by 14-6 to win the Plate title as Nalanda ‘A’ won the third place.
Medabedda MV defended their Cup title comprehensively when they handed Anula Vidyalaya ‘A’ a 9-1 thrashing in the final of the girls’ segment. Good Shepherd’s Convent Kotahena recorded a thrilling 3-2 win against Devi Balika ‘B’ to win the Bowl Championship while Anula ‘B’ was placed third in that category. Devi Balika ‘A’ beat Buddhist Girls’ School by 6-4 to win the Plate championship. The competition was organised by the Sri Lanka Schools’ Handball Association. – NA
