Dulaj Lansakara moves to Tusculum College courtesy SUSA
View(s):“When you go to US for education, go with an open mind. Do not be afraid to ask questions from your teachers or express a different opinion if you think its right because learning in US is an experience quite different from what it is in Sri Lanka. Do not limit your circle (of friends) to Sri Lankans; go out seeking Americans and other internationals and form life long relationships. Once you complete your education, come back to Sri Lanka because your exposure and experiences will give you an advantage that most in Sri Lanka may not have and you can make a difference with the great opportunities that are emerging in Sri Lanka”. This was the wisdom shared by Dinesh Mendis – Director, Aitken Spence Group Ltd. and Treasurer, American Alumni Association, when he sat down recently with Dulaj Lansakara the latest student to be placed at Tusculum College (TC) Tennessee USA by Scholarships for USA (Pvt) LTD (www.scholarshipsforusa.com).
Dulaj Lansakara is an alumnus of Royal College planning to major in Digital Media at TC.
Tusculum College is another unique school discovered by SUSA in summer 2012. In its constant quest to discover most affordable US Colleges and Universities for its ever increasing clientele, SUSA travels across US each summer. Such passionate dedication has benefited ever increasing numbers of diverse Lankan youth from international, local and provincial schools. Firmly committed to its stated vision of making US higher education as affordable and accessible to the largest ever segment of Lankan youth, SUSA persuades each of its partners to offer its highest scholarship to each candidate introduced with ample part-time work and paid internships during holidays. The outcome is the access to world’s best higher education at a price affordable to most Lankans.
The oldest higher education institute in Tennessee and the 28th oldest in the nation Tusculum College is a fine example of a private liberal arts and sciences schools in the US. With only 1,000 undergraduate students and a student – faculty ratio of 15:1 it’s a place where a student is well known and could reach out for academic advise around the clock. With 140 acres of wooded land and with the Great Smoky mountains as backdrop, Tusculum is both breathtaking and serene. A school founded in 1794 – two years before George Washington proclaimed Tennessee State -it has no less than 10 structures on the national register of historic places. This is also where the Library and the Museum of Andrew Johnson- 17th President of the US – is established. If there’s something that has never changed through three centuries at TC, it is “commitment to provide a liberal arts education in a Judeo – Christian and civic arts environment” claimed college President Dr. Nancy B. Moody.
