Vesak figures prominently in The British School’s curriculum
View(s):Developing cultural, racial and religious understanding is an important focus at The British School in Colombo and this year’s Vesak took precedence during their celebrations held at the school auditorium last week.
Recognizing ethnic diversity is one of the schools key values in turning today’s children into tomorrow’s leaders. Vesak marked a significant occasion for the students, who represent 45 different nationalities, but who came together as one to celebrate Vesak.
Moral values are central to The British School which believes that teaching about important religious festivities helps the school to inculcate in the students the importance of humility and humbleness.
Teachers at The British School work hard to ensure that students of all ages learn the importance of morals, ethics and the importance of personal values including humility and caring for others, particularly the less fortunate.
The British School prides itself on providing an excellent academic education, securing world standard examination results whilst developing students into caring, self-confident and morally aware young people, prepared to make an active contribution to society.
The Vesak assemblies this week have provided another opportunity for the children to learn about traditional dress whilst celebrating the important cultural aspects of living in Sri Lanka.
