Despite inclement weather on day two of the Relay Carnival at the Diyagama Stadium it did not prevent athletes from establishing new records in the final events that were held for the day.

In all one Sri Lanka record and three new meet records were established.

There new Sri Lanka national established was in the open event by athletes from Army which was in the 4 x 1500m. Army athletes also set a new meet record in the 4 x 800m event. The other two new meet records came in the girl’s and boy’s categories with athletes from Walala A. Ratnayake CC Menikhinna establishing them.

The Army quartet finished the 4 x 1500m event with a new timing of 15.52.99secs which eclipsed the existing record of 15.55 also set by Army ten years ago in 2003.

The record that tumbled in the boy’s category was in the under 18 4 x 1500m where athletes from Walala A. Ratnayake CC broke their own record of 17.42.12 set in 2012 with a new timing of 17.21.07.

The record in the girl’s category was in the under 20 4 x 1500m where the girl’s from Walala A. Ratnayake CC set a new time of 20.49.33 to erase the previous record of 21.32.30 set way back in 2002.

Meanwhile Walala A. Ratnayake CC dominated the proceedings with their athletes grabbing the honours in most of the events in both the categories while in the open events Army shone in two of three of the four events that were worked with Air Force winning the other event.

The completion of the final events saw a heavy downpour hindering the afternoon proceedings which saw a delay in conducting the 4 x100m relay events. However under trying and soggy conditions the organizers managed to get on with the proceedings.
The curtains of the Relay Carnival conducted by the Athletics Association of Sri Lanka will come down today with D.P.K. Gunasekera, Deputy General Manager of Bank of Ceylon gracing the awards ceremony as the chief guest.
