Blue Star and Army move to the top
Blue Star and Army Sports Club topped their respective groups as the Dialog Champions League 2013 inter-club football competition completed its fourth week. Blue Star retained their top spot in Group ‘A’ their 1-0 win against Colombo FC as Army romped to the top
position in Group ‘B’ from sixth place.
From Group ‘A’ Ratnam thrashed Java Lane by 4-2 and gained a slot to number two followed by Navy who jumped a place up. Colombo FC crashed down two places to fourth as Java Lane, Negombo Youth and Matara City remain at fifth, sixth and seventh respectively, unchanged from last week. Air Force and Saunders swapped places to eighth and ninth with Super Sun reeling at the bottom. In addition the FFSL technical committee is yet to come to a conclusion on two matches which were abandoned.
The matches between Saunders and Air Force at Kelaniya and Super Sun and Negombo Youth at Beruwela had to be called off owing inclement weather and officials will come to a final conclusion on these encounters.
From Group ‘B’, following Army is Don Bosco who gained a slot to second as Solid SC lost its grip from the group and slid down to third place. Despite their abandoned game against New Youngs last weekend, Army remains as the only unbeaten side from the tournament so far, having won three out of three. Police SC after their resounding 4-2 win against Kalutara Park, gained three slots to fourth as Renown lost a place and moved down to fifth after drawing 1-all against Solid SC. Upcountry Lions who were thrashed 3-0 by group leaders Army lost four places and moved down to sixth. Nandimithra earned a slot to seventh as New Youngs moved down three places to eighth. Pelicans and Kalutara Park exchanged places from last week at the bottom. – NA
