India through in high scoring warm-up
View(s):Inform Indian batsman Virat Kohli hit a superb 144 and also put on a match winning partnership of 186 runs in 23.2 overs with Dinesh Karthik who also hit an unbeaten century to guide their side in their warm-up match against Sri Lanka in Birmingham yesterday.
After Sri Lanka had made an imposing 333 for 5 in their allotted 50 overs India lost the first batsman in the very first over when opener Shikhar Dhawan was run out for one. Then with the exit of the other opener Murali Vijay (18) and Rohit Sharma (5), the Indians looked vulnerable, but the Indian middle order pair batted with a lot of authority and ease on the placid wicket to see them through without much ado.
Kohli in his 120 ball stay at the crease hit 11 fours and 3 six while Karthik – the more adventurous of the two batsmen faced 81 balls hit fours 12 and 2 sixes. At the end Karthik was not out 106.
For Sri Lanka their best bowler was seamer Shaminda Eranga who bagged 2 for 60 in nine overs.
Earlier Sri Lanka who were put into bat were guided by their openers Kusal Janith Perera (82) and T. M. Dilshan (84) who put on 160 runs for the first wicket. The two openers after getting the eye in on their tour opener opted retire out, thus giving the middle order batsmen to get some match practice.
