The Higher Education Ministry intends admitting students who passed the 2012 Advance Level examination, by year-end, Education Ministry officials said.

The leadership training programme is to be held within the next few months, in preparation for the students’ admission.
The last batch was delayed more than one-and-half years by the Z-score fiasco.

However, this year, there will not be any additional students to local universities, as there is already a 25% increase because of the 2011 Z-score fiasco.

As a way out of the Z-score crisis, the Supreme Court ordered the University Grants Commission (UGC) to admit an additional 5,000 students, which increased the student population of that year to about 27,000.

The Education Times learns that the UGC is having discussions with university officials to admit the backlog of 2012.
Meanwhile, Higher Education Ministry officials assured that students will not face any problems such as lack of facilities and resources, as a result of the additional student intake for the 2011 batch.
