June
View(s):The origin of the months of the year
Juno is the goddess for whom the month of June was named. Some people may not realize that Juno was especially important because she was married to the most important Roman god, Jupiter. The month of June is a time when many celebrations take place, and this was even true in ancient times as well.
This month in Sinhala is Poson meaning Prasanna or pleasant month as nature depicts a pleasant scenario during the 6th month of the year. Some believe that since the arrival of Buddhism occurred on the Poson Poya day, which brought Light (Pahan) to our nation our ancestors named the month Poson, which means the month of Light.
