The glamour and appeal that is associated with the film and television industries no doubt attract loads of youngsters towards these dream worlds. They only see the glitter and splendour on the surface of it. They fail to realise the harsh realities and the darker sides in these fields until they fall prey and experience it for themselves. This is the main theme of ‘Muthu Palasa’, a teleserial now being telecast at 9 pm from Monday to Friday on Swarnavahini channel.

Directed by seasoned teledrama maker Jayaprakash Sivagurunathan, the teleplay has a cast that includ a young and upcoming actors and actresses like Maheshi Madusanka, Amila Abeysekara, Saranga Dissasekara, Uddika Premaratne, Tharushi Perera, Nirosha Thalagala, Sampath Jayaweera and Sujeewa Priyalal.

It also played by a experienced stars like Lucian Bulathsinhala, Malkanthi Jayasinghe, Gayana Sudarshani and Ananda Athukorale.
‘Muthu Palasa’ mainly revolves around its protagonist, Ahinsa, the third girl in a family of four children. Known as Suddi among her family and villagers, Ahinsa is awaiting her A/L results. Her father Heen Appu is a cultivator and mother Kusumawathi, a housewife. Nihal is the eldest son and the only boy in the family. Having not had proper education Amaa, Suddi’s elder sister is involved in sewing in a home in the village. This not-so good looking girl always envies Suddi and her younger sister Kalpana who is preparing to sit for the GCE O/L examination. Kalpana gets on well with Suddi.

Nihal transports vegetables and other items in his lorry to Somaratne Mudalali who purchases them. One day Somaratne’s son Kelum, a musician sees Suddi and invites her to be part of his music video. Despite opposition from her family she finally gets the consent of her parents. When the visual is telecast on television she is bombarded with praise from her family and villagers.

Meanwhile Suddi also had been taking part in dances at ceremonies connected with the temple. Ranmal who had been involved with the drums has won her heart. Ranmal doesn’t like Suddi acting. A production company in the city sees her in the visual and offers her a role in a new tele drama. They also tell her how much she would be paid for the role. Her family is against it. But she gets permission on the grounds that she would look after her family with whatever she earns from this profession.

Amaa’s wedding day nears. Suddi helps her financially. Heen Appu suddenly falls ill on the day before the wedding, and becomes paralysed. Citing it as a bad omen, Sarath refuses to marry Amaa. This depresses Amaa. She begins to envy everyone.

In the production department are Thusitha Anuradha as cameraman, Chinthaka Peiris- script writer, Manoj Wickremasinghe- art director, Ruchira Sanjeewa- make up, Dayasiri Jayasekara vocal while Chamitha Guruge is the production manager and Chamara Samarawickrema the line producer.
