Students at Varuni Jayasekara Academy to stage ‘Flight of Flamboyance’ concert
View(s):‘Flight of Flamboyance’, an evening of entertainment, presented by the students of the Varuni Jayasekara Academy of Speech, Drama and Communication will go the the boards of the Bishop’s College auditorium on June 21 and 22 at 6.30 p.m.
The programme features an array of dramatic selections, choral work and musicals performed by students ranging from the age of 4 to 27 years – a Flight of Flamboyance from the streets of London to the Land of Oz to the jungles of India and forests of Sherwood. Enjoyable and appealing to both the young and the old will be items such as ‘The Importance of Being Ernest’ and a musical medley of songs from well loved musicals.
“A concert such as this would provide the students with an opportunity to sensitise themselves as a body, in a focused manner, to that beautiful aspect of the arts which we call drama and would also afford them the opportunity to appreciate that drama does contribute to the enhancement of our perception of life.” Principal of the Academy Mrs. Varuni Jayasekara said.
The Varuni Jayasekara Academy of Speech, Drama and Communication, has been in the forefront of training and developing students of different age groups in drama, communication and spoken English. The academy successfully staged their first public performance ‘Razzle Dazzle’ in 2006.
