Third edition of popular TV show ‘IT Mastermind’
View(s):ESOFT Metro Campus together with the Computer Society of Sri Lanka will conduct its popular ‘IT Mastermind 2013’ for the third consecutive year. The TV show has been successful in increasing knowledge and awareness not only of IT but also of English, as all the exams are conducted in English.
Around 2000 children from both national and international schools islandwide have taken part in the first stage of the event which was an online exam. 500 of the top scorers were invited for the second stage of the programme which included a written exam. From these children, 108 students have been chosen.
“Sri Lanka hopes to become a strategic centre for IT excellence and raising the level of knowledge of IT among school children was essential for this national effort,” says the Chairman/Managing Director of ESOFT, Dr. Dayan Rajapakse. “We have been successful in bringing winners not just from Colombo but also from outstation; last year all three winners were from out station schools.” This shows the role which these types of competitions play as it brings together talent and knowledge from around the country.
“This year we are also giving the winners scholarships both full and partial to study IT at our Campus. The applications are already out for those who would like to apply for the competition next year.”
The winner receives a prize of Rs.100, 000, and the student’s school is given equipment worth of Rs. 150, 000, while the first runner-up gets Rs. 75, 000 and the student’s school receives IT equipment worth of Rs. 100, 000. The second runner-up and the student’s school gets prizes worth of Rs. 50,000 each. All participants are given a certificate along with medals and preliminary winners receive cash prizes of 5,000 and 10,000.
IT Mastermind, which is conducted by the Quiz master, Faizal Bongso and presented by actress Anjani Perera will be broadcast every Monday at 6.30 p.m. from June 17 on ITN.
