Thomians win Golf Tournament at Porter Valley California
View(s):The Thomian team, led by Sugu Ariathurai won the 5th Annual Sri Lanka Schools Golf tournament, held on Memorial Day week end, Sunday May 26th at the Porter Valley Country Club. Los Angeles, California.
Twelve schools teams of 72 Golfers participated. The 12 teams included, Royal College, Isipathana, St Josephs’, St Peters’. Three Thomian teams, Two Trinity College teams, a United Sri Lanka team, a Combined Schools team and a Mustangs Team.
The United Sri Lanka team included golfers from Madampe Central; Jaffna College; St Michaels’, Batticaloa and Wesley College. Methodist College, Colombo; D S Senanayake College, Colombo; St Xavier’s College Nuwara Eliya, and Maliyadeva College Kurunegala.
The Thomians led by Sugu Ariathurai included his two brothers, Dr Vathana and Kirupa, Dr Ganesh Devendra, Jonathan Mather, Krishan Sutharshan, won the Championship trophy.
The Isipathana team led by Clifford Baptist were the runners up and St Peters’ led by David Martil were placed 3rd.
Royal College the 2012 champions did not have a good day at the links.
Sugu Ariathurai as the Captain of the winning team also takes over as Captain of the Sri Lanka team of the SLGA of California for 2013/2014.
An awards presentation and dinner dance attended by a large gathering followed the Golf. Upul Dharmadasa, of Upul’s Travels presented the awards.
