Annual Art Exhibition of Gateway achievers
View(s):The needs of children requiring special education was a neglected area in Sri Lanka until recently. Most children were educated, in whichever school they attended, as if their learning abilities were similar and thus all students were expected to cope with class syllabi adopted by a school. Fortunately, awareness of differences in learning abilities and skills of (school children) is now increasing and some schools have begun responding by allocating special classes for students with learning disabilities.
Gateway, the well-known Educational Institution has incorporated the school for special learning formerly known as ‘Achievers’ as one of its major Social Responsibility Projects. It now functions as Gateway Achievers’.
The children of Gateway Achievers are taught to achieve success in many different fields, depending on their particular talents and capabilities.
Art and craft activities in particular help children to express their ideas freely, whilst also providing relief from any emotional stress they may have.
Gateway considers these activities as a successful way of drawing hidden talents of these children and as one which help build their character. The annual art exhibition gives them the opportunity to showcase their talent by bringing out their best.
Gateway has a vision to develop this school and improve facilities provided to these children with special needs who are now an integral part of the GatewayNetwork as ‘Gateway Achievers’. Details of the Gateway Achievers can be obtained by calling 2584913.
