‘Midnight Saga’ on July 25
View(s):Kindling the spirit of Shakespeare yet giving it a unique twist is what the students of Gateway College will be experiencing as they prepare for their mega Drama Production to be held on the 25th of July, this year at the Lionel Wendt. Drama Director, Jerome L. de Silva is in avid preparation to enrich their acting abilities and knowledge of the classics and produce what he believes to be ‘an absolutely, spectacular show’.
Gateway College has been a pioneer in providing education that is innovative and creative. Their exploration of a Drama Production is an added landmark which highlights that the school actively advocates and believes in maintaining a balance between academics and extra-curricular activities.Hence, this production has been phasedin such a way as to provide the students with a ‘break’ soon after their Edexcel Examinations.
The production named as ‘Midnight Saga’ is an exploration of four Shakespearean plays, Hamlet, Othello, Macbeth and A Midsummer Night’s Dream, edited in such a way that they fuse into one exciting spectacle. On the contrary, the very feature that distinguishes it from the rest is the manner in which it has been contextualised to the contemporary society without misinterpreting the original work. According to Jerome, this is the spirit with which Shakespeare should be understood: as something that could be enjoyed by all through the ‘proper’ way of reading it.
He believes that this needs to be done not only through a dramatic but a literary perspective as well. Towards this end,the 50 students who are in the cast are all ‘geared up’ toprovide a spectacular performance. With Jerome’s assistance and their passion for acting, this play is sure to be a treat to look forward to.
The Cast and Crew of Gateway College along with Jerome L. de Silva invite everyone to be a part of their Play. Tickets could be purchased from the school office and at ………………
