World Environment Day
World Environment Day is celebrated on June 5. It is a day dedicated to raise world attention to take correct environmental action. This day was declared by the United Nations in1972. The first World Environment Day was celebrated in 1973 and this year marks the 40th Anniversary.
Every year celebrations are held in different countries around the world, with a different theme. This year’s theme is, ‘Think. Eat. Save.’ And gives us the important message of not to waste food. It will be held in Mongolia.
We as small children waste a lot of food. I think that this is a good time for all of us to stop wasting food and eat up all the food that our moms’ give us.

My ambition
My ambition is to become a cricketer. I like cricket because it is a world famous game and an interesting game. My favourite team
is Sri Lanka and my favourite cricketer is Angelo Mathews.
We need a bat, ball and wickets to play cricket. I love to be a cricketer because I can travel around the world, meet many people and so a service to my country as well. I learn cricket by going for cricket classes and by watching cricket matches on TV. My coach is
Sir Palitha Kulathunge. He coaches me well and is a very good player himself. My father teaches me cricket at home and my family help me a lot too.
Since I can bat and bowl well I wish to become an all-rounder. I will try my best to achieve my goal and I hope it comes true one day.

My garden
I have a small but very beautiful garden. There are lots of flowers and vegetables in my garden. The colours of the flowers are red, orange, pink, yellow, blue, green and indigo. Sometimes my garden looks like a rainbow.
Lots and lots of bees, butterflies and birds visit my garden everyday. There is also a pond full of water. I love my garden very much.

Books are our friends
There is an old saying that “Reading maketh a full man.” This saying tells us how important reading is to a person’s life.
We have always read books throughout our lives without taking much notice. However, it is important to pay attention towards the books we read. Books give us many valuable assets. Among these are knowledge, second-hand experience, morals, and enjoyment. Most of the information in books is also reliable.
There is a wide range of books available. Therefore we have a vast variety of books for us to read. The list of different kinds of books includes books on Science, History, storybooks and so on and so forth. By reading different books we can gain many values.
However we have to be careful when choosing books to read. Some books may not have the same importance as other books on the same subject.
Sir Francis Bacon once said that “Some books are to be tasted, some swallowed and some digested.” This means that some books are not to be memorized, yet others are to be carefully read and memorized. In this way, we must choose proper books to read. If we do so, books will be our best friends.
