All-island inter-school drama competition in full swing
View(s):Arrangements for the Colombo YMBA organized 32nd All-Island Inter School Sinhala Drama competition is now in progress. A Large number of Schools & Dhamma Schools Island wide have already sent in their applications and all ‘30 minute short course Drama performances’ are based on Jathaka Stories with children in the age group of 6-18 eligible for participation. Preliminary rounds of the Drama will commence from 1st week of July, 2013, and the 4 finalists will be performing at the Drama Finals Day scheduled to be held in September, 2013.
The Panel of Judges will consist of well known personalities in this field, and there will be a large number of Special Challenge Cups & Cash Awards such as Prasanna Goonetilake Challenge Cup for the ‘ Best School’ in the name of Past President and member of the Board of Governors who was also the Branch Secretary of the Drama Division for several years.
Other challenge Cups introduced are Raja Kuruppu Challenge Cup for the ‘Most Outstanding Actor’ and the Sridath Shri Nandalochana Challenge Cup for the ‘Most Outstanding Actress’ and several other Prizes for 1st Ten Schools apart from cash awards also presented to best Director / Producer of the participating Schools & Dhamma Schools.
President of the Colombo YMBA, Mr Suren Abeyagunsekara, Mr Anura Serasingha Branch Secretary for Drama Activities, Maj. Gen. A.M.U. Senaviratne General Manager & the Staff of the Colombo YMBA are doing their best effort to make the 32nd All-Island Inter School Drama Competition a success. Last year’s competition was won by Kingswood College Kandy, and student Thilan Sachintha Herath of Kingswod College Kandy & Suwakshini Samarasinghe of Presbyterian Balika National School Dehiwala won the Best Actor & Best Actress Awards respectively.
