The performance analysis of GCE- O/L 2012, shows continued improvement during the past six years, the Examinations Department said.
Colombo district’s passes has improved from 66.03% in 2007 to 73.28% in 2012, Kalutara district from 53.41% in 2007 to 66.25% in 2012, Matara district from 53.07% in 2007 to 66.31% in 2012, Hambantota from 47.80% in 2007 to 64.75% in2012, and Ratnapura from 46.50% in 2007 to 62.10% in 2012.

Of the 268,995 students who sat for five or more subjects last year, 174,160 qualified for the GCE Advanced Level. Also, 4509 students obtained 9A passes, while 11,100 students, or 4.13%, failed all subjects.

The best performance was from the Western province with 69.03% passes, while Uva province with 59.63% passes brought up the rear.
