SLANA National Heath Run
The National Heath Run (NHR) organised by The Sri Lanka Anti Narcotics Association (SLANA) will be held on July 7 beginning at 6 a.m, in conjunction with the commemoration of the United Nations declaration against drug abuse and illicit trafficking. The Galle Face Green will be the starting point and the event will take place under the patronage of the Police Narcotic Bureau and with the technical support of the Sri Lankan Sports Authorities.
The National Health Run has been one of the biggest sporting events in Sri Lanka and has been conducted for over a decade as one of SLANA’s main events as they strongly believe that an informed public is the nation’s best defence against drug abuse.
Speaking to the Sunday Times, Director of SLANA, Ms. Dharshinie Guniyangoda said, “The whole essence of this programme is to meet the challenges faced due to drug abuse and to foster Human Resource development in Sri Lanka. The Health Run is sure to help promote integration, interaction and bringing people together for a healthy life through sports.”
“With the aim of promoting equal opportunity, this year the Health Run also includes an event for the physically and mentally disadvantaged, especially disabled soldiers,” SLANA’s Programme Manager Ms. Ramani Fernando said.
The races will be held under four categories:
- The Rainbow Run- 5 kilometres (Over 15)
- Open Class – 14 kilometres (Over 15)
- Special Age Group Class – 14 kilometres (Over 50 years)
- The disabled event.
Prizes will be awarded to men and women of each category. SLANA invites all members of the public to join in – run against drug abuse and express your concern and voice your support with your family and friends.
