French cinema at AF de Colombo
View(s):The weekly French film screening at Alliance Française de Colombo at 11, Barnes Place, Colombo 7 is to showcase a French cinematic collection from action and crime thrillers to entertaining comedies. The movies will be screening at 3 pm on Tuesdays and at 6.30 pm on Wednesdays.
‘Taken 2’ a 2012 film directed by Olivier Megaton and screened on July 9 and 10 revolve a retired CIA agent Bryan Mills who invites his teenage daughter Kim and his ex-wife Lenore, who has separated from her second husband, to spend a couple of days in Istanbul where he is working. Meanwhile, the patriarch of the community of the Albanian gang of human trafficking, Murad Krasniqi, seeks revenge for the death of his son and organizes another gang to kidnap Bryan and his family. ‘Le Pari’ directed by D. Bourdon and B. Campan will be screened at July 16 and 17. Two brothers-in-law, Didier and Bernard will launch a challenge: each must not smoke for 14 days.
‘L’Accompagnatrice’ screening on July 22 and 23 set in Nazi-occupied Paris and narrates around a young accompanist named Sophie Vasseur who gets a job with famed singer Irene Brice. Director Tony Gatlif’s ‘Gadjo Dillo’ will be shown on July 30 and 31.
Stéphane, a young French man from Paris, travels to Romania. He is looking for the singer Nora Luca, whom his father had heard all the time before his death. Wandering along a frozen road, he meets old Izidor, a member of the Roma (Gypsy) and tells him of Nora Luca. Izidor seems to understand and takes him to his village. Stéphane believes that Izidor will take him to Nora Luca when the time has come. So, he lives in the Roma(Gypsy) village for several months. The other inhabitants dislike him at first (as he comes from those who call them thieves and attack their folks) but when they as they get to know him better, they grow to like him.
