Swede used Skype to entrap unsuspecting females for porn
The Sri Lankan-born Swedish professor who was arrested in a sordid porn racket had used the Skype technology as the main tool to trap his unsuspecting victims who were later blackmailed to perform lewd acts which the suspect filmed and later sold to international porn sites, police investigations have revealed.
According to senior officials with the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) the 40-year-old suspect, a resident of Veyangoda is alleged to have trapped at least a dozen local women that included a female teacher and a high school student among others, mainly teenagers.
The modus operandi of the man was to engage his victims via the Skype while based in Geneva and initially offer a proposal of marriage and a permanent passage and residence in the Swiss capital and gradually convince them to undress which he later recorded, the officials said.
They added that the suspect later arrived in the country for a face-to-face meeting with his victims and engaged them in various sex performances that were filmed and photographed. Later the suspect is alleged to have told his victims that the films and the photographs will be made public if they refuse to perform more acts.
According to the investigations the filming of such scenes that included group sex orgies with lesbian scenes that involved men took place at a sea-side resort in Kalutara unknown to the management and staff.
The suspect’s activities continued for more than a year with him alleged to have turned out a large number of pornography movies that were later sold to porn sites in several European capitals and even across the Atlantic, the officials said. The man’s alleged activities came to light after the female teacher finally decided that enough was enough and brought the matter to the notice of the police and the CID was subsequently called in to investigate.
The police then decided on a sting operation and instructed the teacher to convince the suspect that more persons both men and women were anxious to take part in the sex films to which the man readily agreed and the date and place for the screening was fixed to be in the same hotel.
What the suspect was unaware of was that the newcomers who had agreed to be filmed in the porn scenes were none other than cleverly disguised officers from the CID and when he turned up at the given date he was promptly arrested and later produced in court where his travel documents were impounded.
The suspect was assisted by his personal driver and a close friend and both men were also involved in the orgies and the subsequent filming, according to police. Police were also able to recover a mixture of pornographic material from his residence at Veyangoda that included a computer and various addresses of overseas pornographic sites.
In a related incident earlier this week an airman was arrested after he is alleged to have blackmailed a young teacher attached to a Colombo school using the same modus operandi-threatening to expose nude pictures of her that were taken on his camera phone.
In this case too, the woman had taken the matter up with the local police and the suspect airman was arrested and later remanded.
Police also yesterday cautioned youngsters both male and female to be on guard against such persons irrespective of who they claim to be adding that several similar cases had been investigated earlier on.
