Will Rambukwella be included in Under 23 tour?
The 35,000 foot question is whether Sri Lanka Cricket selectors will go ahead and retain Ramith Rambukwella for the Under 23 final squad to take part in the Asian Cricket Council Emerging Team’s Cup tournament in Singapore from August 17 to 25.
The Lankan selectors in mid-June selected an initial 18-member preliminary squad to prepare for this tournament which all leading members of the Asian Cricket Council — Sri Lanka, India, Pakistan and Bangladesh — will take part alongside Nepal, the United Arab Emirates, Afghanistan and the host, Singapore.
The controversial cricketer, who has admitted to be suffering from Somnambulism, created a stir after he, reportedly inebriated, tried to open the cabin door in a British Airways flight. At present Sri Lanka Cricket is investigating the incident prior to taking any disciplinary action against him.
When inquired about the player remaining in the squad, SLC Secretary Nishantha Ranatunge said, “We are expecting the report on this matter tomorrow or the day after. Once the report reaches us, the executive committee will meet and take a decision”.
The squad selected for the tournament consists of Kithruwan Withanage, PHT Kaushal, Akila Dhananjaya, Shehan Jayasuriya, Niroshan Dickwella, Dushmantha Chameera, Kasun Madushanka, Vishwa Fernando, Ramith Rambukwella, Gayan Maneeshan, Pabasara Waduge, Imran Khan, Lahiru Jayaratne, Yasoda Lanka, Rumesh Buddika, Charith Jayampathy, Danushka Gunathilake and Udara Jayasundara.
The SLC also announced that there would be additions to the squad based on performances at the ongoing Under 23 local tournament.
The Singapore tournament match schedule is:
August 17: Afghanistan vs Nepal at the Padang |
