“Sri Lanka’s first oil company to bid for exploration licence”
With reference to the Business Times story last week headlined “Sri Lanka’s first oil company to bid for exploration licence” which referred to Ceylan Energy being Sri Lanka’s only oil and gas exploration and production company, Petro Sri Lanka Corp. says it was formed in 2010 as Sri Lanka’s first Oil and Gas Exploration company.
Petro Sri Lanka Managing Director Deshan Goonewardene has written to say that the company is the only exploration company that “consists of actual geologists and exploration specialists who have been working assiduously with Saliya Wickramasuriya and the PRDS since he was appointed its head”.
The letter said that “our geologists spent nearly two weeks in June last year manually poring through all old data acquired since 1967 as well as the modern seismic acquired in 2001 and 2005 on the PRDS work stations. Since then, we have been carrying out technical analysis, forming an exploration plan, and fulfilling the PRDS requirements for the November bid round. Our management and technical team has 90 years of actual exploration experience. By going through all historic and modern data, we believe we have isolated prospective blocks and intend to aggressively pursue them in the upcoming tender round. This proudly Sri Lankan owned company will be doing its utmost to compete with the big multi-nationals to keep the benefits of our natural resources within our shores, so that every Sri Lankan benefits”.
