Students joining CfPS Law School are offered a variety of opportunities. Among them are the Internship Programme where students in the 2nd and 3rd years are given the opportunity of interning with senior members of the legal profession. There is a vibrant student life at CfPS. The CfPS mooting and debating society offers students an opportunity to improve their legal and court room skills preparing them for the legal profession. Students are taken on visits to Parliament and the Courts.
Every year, Sri Lankan students are presented with an opportunity by CfPS to win scholarships worth Rs. 15 million to follow this highly esteemed LL.B degree and diploma, and this year too several scholarships will be awarded.
“It was in 2011 that CFPS launched the scholarships scheme for the students” said Mrs. Manouri Pieris, Deputy Managing Director of CFPS. “We want to motivate our students and to recognise the talented and enthusiastic students”.
The diploma in law “ is essentially for students who do not meet the entry requirement for the LLB degree, either because they are just after O/Ls or because their A/L grades do not meet the entry requirements.
The diploma is essentially the first year of the degree programme but students have extra teaching hours; if they have sufficient marks at the end of the year, then the students can transfer directly to the second year of the degree. So this provides opportunities for students who are genuinely interested in studying law” added Mrs. Pieris.
The CfPS law school is a registered centre of the University of London for both the LL.B. and Diploma in Law Programmes. The CfPS Law School has opened an immeasurable door to the Sri Lankan youth to gain a prestigious celebrated law degree for a comparatively affordable price ,which otherwise would cost millions of rupees. The School provides a superior education as great as what is taught in University of London Colleges. Prospective students needn’t have any doubts in joining CfPS to chase their dream in becoming highly qualified legal practitioners.
Scholarship student for 2012 February, Nirmal Silva had this to say “CFPS is looking for people with a vision not to just be lawyers. I am in engineering and law, gaining the scholarship adds value to all that I have done in the past. Being a scholarship recipient gives you an edge. A lot of people look up to me, people use me as an example and look to me for advice. So it has definitely helped me to become a better student, and has motivated me, which is one of the goals of CFPS in offering this scholarship”
The First Ivor Jennings Scholarship winner was Ms. Chathuni Uduwela a distinguished past Pupil of Visakha Vidyalaya who has completed her second year examinations. In February this year three outstanding students from Visakha Vidyalaya, St Thomas’ College, Mt. Lavinia and Lyceum Nugegoda were awarded the 100% scholarships.
