Holy Cross Walk 2013 & Musical Night with Marians

Holy Cross Collge Kalutra has put into action a string of events to raise funds for its Swimming Pool project.

Two of the fund raising campaigns have got off already with more events to follow.

The Old Boys Union has organized a college walk titled  “Holy Cross Walk 2013”  next Sunday. The scheduled walk will be kicked off at 3 .00 pm on Sunday from the college with participation of present boys, old boys, the staff and the parents.

The organizing committee has taken steps to launch the walk in a colorful and a grand style. The expected participation for the event is over 5,000 with the old boys who have passed out from the school during the past 40 years.

The walk starts from the College entrance towards Kalutara Clock Tower and ends at Holy Cross Church. At the end of the Walk, The Rector of HCC Rev. Fr. Dr. Camillus Fernando will address the gathering. The old boys union has planned to attire the present students at the old boys in specially dressings T-Shirts for the participants of the walk.  The walk will also include Elephants, Horses, Double Decker busses, Old Vintage Classic Cars, Racing Bikes which will lift Holy Cross College Kalutara to the national level which is the aim of the Holy Cross Walk 2013.

The musical night will be staged with the islands most famous musical group “Marians” together with the well known artist Bathiya & Santhush in attendance.

The organizing committee has made arrangements to give the natives of Kalutara area  a new experience of a wonderful fireworks display, dance items and illuminating of lights with the musical show.

Holy Cross College, Kalutara is one of the leading boys’ private schools in the island located in a beautiful hillock with a panoramic view of the Kalutara Lagoon. The school holds the ownership of a proud history of more than 110 years.

The tentative estimate of constructing the 25 meter and 6 lane pool is Rs. 25 million and the OBU has designed and implemented few exclusive projects in aid of the construction of the pool. Funds amounting to Rs. 15 million already has been collected.

The Rector of the Holy Cross College Kalutara, Rev. Fr. Dr. Camillus Fernando has announced their plan to hold the ground breaking ceremony on 17th July 2013 and the Project Manager Mr. Mahendra Perera, Vice president of the OBU of Holy Cross College Kalutra, has planned  to complete the project within 8 months.

The OBU launched their first direct campaign for the proposed swimming pool project on 05th May 2013 . The OBU collected around Rs. 3.5 million in few hours from the old boys and the well wishers on the same day. On this day old boys individually and collectively donate Rs.1  lakh each to the project.

In the second fund raiser a sum of  Rs 11.35 million donations and sponsorships were collected. Minister Kumara Welgama, Minister of Transport, participated for the event as the chief guest.

Sri Lanka Mobitel Telecom announced their Rs 4,000,000 worth platinum Sponsorship for the “Holy Cross Walk 2013” and “Musical Nite” which are the two events to be organized by the Old Boys’ Union of Holy Cross College Kalutara for the aid of the project.
Access Engineering announced their Rs 500,000 worth Silver Sponsorship while Minuki Group of Companies and ZTE Lanka (Pvt) Ltd announced their Rs 250,000 worth Co- Sponsorships at this event.

Rs. 1,000,000 donation made by the old boys of the Holy Cross College, who are staying at Australia was one of the key donation which helped organizers to go beyond the target amount of ten million.

The Old boys union has also made arrangements to publish a souvenir to make this unique event and the support in looking forward towards their publication for the business community and old boys.
